Rev. Dr. Jefferson M. Furtado was born and raised in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and moved to the United States in 2001 to pursue higher education at Rust College, a historically Black United Methodist institution in Holly Springs, Mississippi. His academic journey reflects a deep commitment to spiritual formation and cultural engagement, holding a B.S. in Computer Science, a Master of Divinity, with concentration in Church Renewal, from United Theological Seminary, and a Doctor of Ministry focused on Christian discipleship from Kairos University. He also holds certifications in Homiletical Peer Coaching and Cultural Intelligence.
Jefferson currently serves as the Senior Pastor of Hilldale United Methodist Church and as a District Superintendent in the Tennessee-Western Kentucky Conference, where he relates to the Board of Ordained Ministry. His leadership reflects a passion for discipleship, inclusive community, and equipping the Church to thrive in a changing world.
Rooted in Wesleyan theology and shaped by both Brazilian and American Methodist traditions, his ministry centers on cultivating intentional discipleship, empowering laity, and fostering healthy, grace-filled congregations.
Jefferson is also a devoted husband and father. He and his wife, the Rev. Linda Furtado, are raising three daughters, who are active in find great joy in good music, good stories, good food, and good company.
With every opportunity to teach, preach, or lead, Jefferson seeks to remind people that we were all created for community and that life finds its deepest meaning when lived in grace-filled connection with God and one another.
